Director
Borislav Gueorguiev is an Associate Professor in Contemporary Bulgarian Language at New Bulgarian University. He reads lectures in Bulgarian Language Communicative Grammar, Linguistic Anthropology, Linguistic Pragmatics, Sociolinguistics, and Text Semiotics. He has a number of published articles in the field of grammar, spelling, orthoepy, semantics, pragmatics, and anthropology of contemporary Bulgarian language, testology, etc. His academic interests include Bulgarian language studies, contemporary Bulgarian language, linguistics, linguistic pragmatics, sociosemiotics, visual semiotics, linguistic anthropology, sociolinguistics, etc.

Asst. Prof. Boika Bachvarova

Programme Coordinator
Boika Bachvarova has been a Senior Assistant Professor at New Bulgarian University for 10 years. Since 2004, she has been a member of the Semiotics Department. Between 1998 and 2005, she worked at the Testing Center at NBU. Since 1997, she has been teaching in various NBU programs, including Applied Linguistics, Biology and Chemistry in a Foreign Language, Applied Informatics, Language and Literature, and Advertising and Lifestyles, etc. She holds classes related to language culture, PC consumer skills, public communications in real-life, texts, advertising and the media, contemporary Bulgarian language, translation, phonetics and phonology, history of writing, and history of Bulgarian linguistics.

Prof. Georg Kraev, Ph.D.

Georg Kraev is a Full Professor at New Bulgarian University and an expert in the field of ethnology, culture studies, and folklore. He was a member of the Institute of Folklore at BAS, director of Sofia City Library and BNR, director of Program “Bulgarian Folk Arts”, as well as a dean of Faculty “Continuing Education”, and deputy director of the Center for Social Resources. His academic interests include classical folklore, classical folklore rituals, parafolklore phenomena and pop-culture, folklore semiotics, cognitive science and folklore, etc.

Prof. Mony Almalech, D.Sc.

Mony Almalech is full professor at New Bulgarian University. He teaches the course “Theories in Contemporary Linguistics”, but also “Hebrew” and “The Kabalah as Semiotics”. His research projects “Different Kinds of Rain in the Pentateuch”, “I Am Who I Am”, “Different Kinds of Windows in the Old Testament”, “The Donkey in the Bible”, ‘The Colors in the Pentateuch” are also intriguing.

Asst. Prof. Vladimir Ignatov

Vladimir Ignatov was born on 21.06.1967. He graduated “Bulgarian Philology” at “Sv. Kliment Ohridski” Sofia University. At NBU, he reads lectures in Bulgarian Language, Rhetoric Studies, and Semiotics. During the spring semester of 2007/2008, he was a lecturer in Bulgarian Language at the Moscow State Linguistic University. He is a co-author of a Bulgarian language textbook for the 12th grade and the language culture textbook of NBU. His academic interests include rhetoric studies, journalism, text composition, etc.
