Welcome to the Bulgarian Language Summer School 2008
Between July 16 and August 15, New Bulgarian University is organizing its third Bulgarian Language Summer School.
Eligible participants in the Summer School include:
- Foreign students who want to study Bulgarian language and acquire basic knowledge about the Bulgarian culture
- University lecturers from various academic disciplines, who are interested in Bulgarian language and culture
- Non-students and non-lecturers, who are interested in studying Bulgarian language and who want to learn about traditional and contemporary Bulgarian culture
- Foreign students, lecturers and non-academic people of Bulgarian origin, who have an interest in Bulgaria and who want to successfully communicate in Bulgarian and rediscover their Bulgarian roots
Therefore, the program of the school is free of the traditional philological syllabus, characteristic of this type of schools, and is entirely practice-oriented in terms of Bulgarian language and culture studies.
The Summer School offers:
1. Intensive 90-hour practical Bulgarian language courses in three levels:
- Beginners Level
- Intermediate Level
- Advanced Level
2. Seven optional 20-hour specialized courses on various interesting aspects of Bulgarian contemporary life, Bulgarian history and culture, folk-lore, political history of Bulgaria, religions in Bulgaria, religious art, Bulgarian linguistic heritage, modern Bulgarian culture.
3. Language practice (almost every day) and field-trips to Sofia, Vitosha, the Rodopi Mts., and some of the natural, cultural and historical landmarks of Bulgaria.
4. Provided that the participants in the school are interested in historical philological disciplines, e.g. Old Bulgarian Language, Church-Slavonic Language, Historical Grammar of Bulgarian Language, History of the Bulgarian (Literary) Language, Bulgarian Dialectology, etc., the staff of the school will arrange for consultations with renowned Bulgarian scholars from the Bulgarian Academy of Science and from other Bulgarian universities.
Upon graduating from the school, participants will receive a certificate of proficiency in Bulgarian language depending on the completed course.
The school is partly financed by the Board of Trustees of New Bulgarian University and is administered by the Center for Continuing Education at New Bulgarian University.
